Swathi Penumutchu is a microbiologist with a Ph.D. in Pathobiology from Brown University and a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She began her postdoctoral work in October 2023 and investigates microbiomes and microbial metabolism using a combination of genomics and electrochemistry. Her research aims to measure and manipulate microbial activity, with a focus on methanogenic archaea. In the Furst Lab, Swathi is currently developing technologies that utilize methanogens to recycle CO2. Outside of the lab, she enjoys hiking, biking, and thinking about electrocuting microbes.
