Jesus M. Lopez Baltazar was born and raised in Ciudad Guzman, Jalisco, Mexico. He holds an M.S. and Ph.D. from Cornell University and a B.S. from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) both in Chemical Engineering. His Ph.D. work focused on the development of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensors for the detection of extracellular vesicles (EVs) – an emergent type of biological marker – with great potential in medical diagnostics. He is currently a postdoctoral associate in the Furst Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he focuses on bioelectrocatalysis and develops electrochemical biosensors for the detection and profiling of biomarkers in outer membrane vesicles from gram-negative bacteria. In his free time, he enjoys exploring the wine bar, live music, and dance scenes around Cambridge/Boston. He is also passionate about storytelling through photography.
