Alexis is from Auburn, Alabama, and completed her bachelor’s degree in Chemical-Biological Engineering at MIT. During her undergraduate studies, she worked in the labs of Giovanni Traverso and Robert Langer, developing synthetic epithelial linings to modulate nutrient and drug absorption in the small intestine. She then worked in industry as a Cell Therapy Engineer at Multiply Labs prior to returning to Cambridge for her Ph.D. in 2023.

As a Ph.D. student in the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology (HST) program for Medical Engineering and Medical Physics (MEMP), Alexis is passionate about improving healthcare accessibility through intentional engineering. Her current research in the Furst lab focuses on developing rapid, point-of-care electrochemical diagnostics. She spends her spare time doing pottery, biking, and playing with her roommate’s dog.
